Assessment in Reading and WritingThis course walks teachers through formative ways of assessing children as readers and writers. This is a balance of reading and writing habits and reading and writing skills. Teachers will learn to analyze student work and make a plan to meet the diverse needs of all children.

Balanced LiteracyThiscourse is an overview of all the Balanced Literacy components that scaffold children to independence in workshop. Shared Reading, Shared Writing, Phonics, Interactive Writing, Interactive Read Aloud, Word Study, Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop will all be briefly covered within a framework of how to teach into all of the components across a week of instruction.

Building a Classroom LibraryThis course is focused around organization and management of a classroom library. Types of books that need to be included in classroom libraries is also an important topic in this course. We will provide new titles to consider purchasing plus ways for teachers to collect books in inexpensive ways. This is half day course.

Early LiteracyIn this course the importance of storytelling and emergent storybook reading is a heavy focus. Teachers learn ways to build reading and writing identities in their youngest students. Teachers will leave knowing how to implement this work easily into a Pre-K and Kindergarten classroom along with materials that could be used to begin this work.

Purposeful PlayThis course examines the importance of play for all learners. Participants will spend time thinking about ways to embed more joyful instruction into the week along with understanding how the three cueing systems we all use to read are the same cueing systems we use when we play.

Reading and Writing workshopThis course covers the structure of the workshop, the structure of a mini lesson, and the methods used to teach children during independent reading and writing. These methods include conferring, strategy groups, and Guided Reading Groups.

Small Group Reading and Writing instructionThis course is a deeper study of the types of groups teachers could be meeting with during Reading and Writing Workshop. This would include strategy groups, Guided Reading groups, individual conferences, coaching conferences, phonics groups, Shared Reading groups and how to plan these groups across a week so that all children in a classroom are being seen across a week by the teacher during independent work time.

Student Self TalkThis course is built around the importance of Mindset and Social Emotional Learning. We know if we can provide ways for children to use positive self talk their willingness to be a risk taker increases. This course is designed to give teachers strategies during the literacy block to teach into positive self talk and social and emotional learning.

Supporting Multilingual StudentsWe understand that all children are learning language. We also know that children move in and out of language structures depending on the situation they are in. This course provides teachers with structures and routines to use within all instruction to support all students.
